"It’s Not About New Media, It’s About New Marketing"

I knew that headline would get you! Agree or disagree with what I’m about to tell you, you have to agree with the meaning of the headline. Nick Brien (left), worldwide CEO of Universal McCann, claims the notion of new media is almost irrelevant. “When clients say, ‘Talk to me about new media,’ I say, ‘No I am not going to talk to you about new media, I am going to talk to you about new marketing.” His point is that the marketing model has fundamentally changed with emerging media and if marketers don’t keep up, they risk losing their brands. What’s more—I love this one—he says, “brands have to become experiences.” Helping consumers generate their own content is one of the smartest ways to embrace the new marketing model, Mr. Brien said.
